What is a hot dip galvanized water tank?

Hot-dip galvanized water tank is a water storage device assembled after steel plate is treated by hot-dip galvanizing process. It has the characteristics of corrosion resistance, easy installation and low maintenance cost. Its applicable scenarios and selection conditions are as follows:

Applicable scenarios

  • Building water supply system:Hot-dip galvanized water tanks are often used for domestic water storage and regulation in buildings, such as secondary water supply systems in high-rise buildings. Its corrosion resistance and sealing can effectively avoid secondary water pollution and meet hygiene requirements.
  • Heating and air-conditioning system:Applicable to expansion water tanks and condensation water tanks of heating systems, as well as cooling water storage of air-conditioning systems. Its hot-dip galvanized layer can resist corrosion caused by changes in water temperature and extend its service life.
  • Temporary or engineering needs:In construction, geological surveys, industrial projects or national defense projects, it is often used as a temporary water storage device. Because of its modular design, it supports rapid assembly and does not require welding, which is suitable for flexible installation on site.
  • Fire protection system:Some underground fire pump stations or fire water pools use hot-dip galvanized water tanks, and their structural stability and corrosion resistance can meet the long-term storage needs of fire water.

Advantages of choosing hot-dip galvanized water tank

  • Strong anti-corrosion performance:Through the high-temperature hot-dip galvanizing process, a dense galvanized layer is formed on the surface of the steel plate, which is tightly combined with the steel plate substrate, and the corrosion resistance is better than that of ordinary plastic-coated or epoxy-lined water tanks.
  • Easy installation:Adopting standardized modules (such as 1000×1000mm, 1000×500mm and other specifications) and bolt connection methods, on-site assembly does not require large equipment to ensure no leakage.
  • Economic and adaptable:The cost is lower than that of stainless steel water tanks, and the capacity is flexible (up to more than 300 tons), and the height can reach 5 meters, which is suitable for different space requirements.

Precautions for use and maintenance

  • Installation conditions
  1. The bottom of the water tank needs to be flat, and at least 700mm channels are reserved around it for maintenance.
  2. Avoid direct welding on the tank to prevent rust caused by damage to the galvanized layer.
  • Regular maintenance
  1. It needs to be cleaned 1-2 times a year to remove scale and sediment to prevent blockage or pollution.
  2. When out of service, the water should be drained and the seals and bolts should be checked for tightness.
  • Environmental requirements

The recommended operating temperature is 4~65℃. Special design is required for high temperature environments; long-term exposure to humid environments requires enhanced ventilation and moisture-proof measures.

Comparison with other water tanks

  1. Compared with stainless steel water tanks: lower cost, but slightly inferior to high-quality stainless steel in corrosion resistance.
  2. Compared with GRP water tanks: hot-dip galvanizing process is more resistant to mechanical impact, not easy to delaminate, and suitable for frequent disassembly scenarios.

Summary

Hot-dip galvanized water tanks are suitable for scenarios with high requirements for corrosion resistance and installation flexibility and limited budgets, especially for temporary projects, building water supply and fire protection systems. When choosing, the capacity, installation method and maintenance plan should be determined according to specific needs.
